The Seductress From Hell! Non Spoiler Review.
The Seductress From Hell
Zara is a struggling actress in Los Angeles. Going to many auditions but never getting a call back. She lives with her husband Robert who is a narcissist and is both verbally and physically abusive to Zara. As the couples financials worsen the abuse picks up. Zara evens ask Robert to move to a cheaper state and that puts him over the edge. Being turned down more and more and the abuse from Robert you start to see her slowly go into a downward spiral that she won't be able to get herself out of. They invite their friends Derek and Maya over for dinner but Zara forgets to put on a timer and burns the meal. Derek offers to order Thai food for them. Maya takes a jab at Zara about having a real job while Robert says this will never happen again. After Derek and Maya leave Robert backhands Zara that leads her into the darkest realm of hell.
I really liked this movie. Multiple things about it just felt right. Lets talk about the score. Seems like each time you hear music it was made for that part. Instead of thinking well could have been darker or lighter it was perfect. The Composer is Elezeid and to me they killed it. It is also filmed very well. Most low budget films give you more of a found footage feel and this feels like a higher budget film due to the equipment they used. I get I Spit On You Grave meets Hostel vibes from this movie. The only negative I have about the movie is there are a couple of parts that are drawn out and makes certain things very awkward. Which I believe some of them are suppose to be but this is like why not just walk away instead of standing there for 30-45 seconds of silence, say something then do it again. Other than that it is very well done.
Now lets talk about the cast. Jason Faunt who plays Robert did amazing. You may have heard his name before as he was also the Red Ranger in Power Rangers Time Force. I thought after knowing his previous roles this would be difficult for him but he nailed it. Rocio Scotto plays Zara and you can see the pain in someone who only wants to be loved. Someone who is struggling not only with the auditions but with her relationship. Kylie Rohrer play Maya. Though she has a small part in the movie she plays the stuck up girlfriend very well. Raj Jawa plays Derek and you can feel how he tries to make everyone happy. When things happen he offers to help out in everyway.
Andrew de Burgh is the director and he reached out to me to review this movie. Like always I ask questions about it and learned a lot. I want to thank him for allowing me to view and review this movie ahead of the release.
I give The Seductress From Hell a 3.5 out of 5. The score, filming, story are very well done. The only negatives are the long awkward silence parts. But there are only a couple of those. Jason and Zara kill it. Zara has to play so many different emotions and changes character. And Jason goes from Morphin Time to a narcissist abuser.
The Seductress from Hell is dedicated to Renuka Gupta (Andrews Aunt) and Patrick Faunt (Jason Faunts Father) both passed away before filming started. Rest In Peace Renuka and Patrick.
