The Magilla Gorilla Show: Complete Series Blu Ray Review

Image
Direct from his Peebles Pet Shop habitat, Magilla Gorilla swings into the Blu-ray jungle, his inimitable goofiness and penchant for stumbling into trouble still intact to delight new generations of cartoon fans. As the naive ape demonstrates, primates and humans share similar situations. Magilla gets to be an Army draftee (Private Magilla, featuring famous news anchor Walter Crancake), a football player (Gridiron Gorilla), an astronaut (Planet Zero) and more, ever silly situation an occasion for laughs. You can also relish the frisky feuding of Punkin' Puss and Mushmouse in a rootin'-tootin' shooting gallery of hillbilly hilarity. Lightning-fast sheriff Ricochet Rabbit and his coyote deputy Droop-a-long round out the animated animal antics. All 23 original episodes of this Hanna-Barbera classic series have been newly remastered from 4K scans of the original negatives for pristine quality, along with eight bonus Magilla cartoons that are sure to please! I love this set. I am...

The Dinner Party Blu Ray Review

Image
Ambitious playwright Jeff (Mike Mayhall) and his neurotic wife, Haley (Alli Hart), have been invited to attend a dinner party at the plush estate of the wealthy doctor Carmine (Bill Sage). Jeff is hoping to score some investment money to produce his new play on Broadway, so this is a  big  night for him. At this Dinner Party things begin to turn against Jeff. Odd things begin to happen like, naked people showing up at random times.  Although the movie is a bit long and sometimes slow it was good. I would say it is worth a watch.

Lone Wolf Horror Slasher Blu Ray Review

Image
To be quite frank with you this is a pretty awful movie. From how it is shot to how the costumes are. Technical problems galore. I love cheesy and B horror movies but this one is really really bad.  After a mascot is very badly burnt, he seeks revenge by targeting the local furry convention.  Enough said. Just dont waste your time or money on this one. Sorry but this one is really bad.

The Basement Blu Ray Review

Image
Craig is abducted and wakes up in a basement. His captor, Bill, is a twisted serial killer who wishes to reenact his own capture, with Craig playing the part of Bill and Bill playing everyone else. As Bill tortures Craig, he cycles through a number of personas, all while Craig tries desperately to find a way into Bill's pathology in order to save himself. Very interesting movie. Highly recommend for a thriller. Give it a watch!

The End 1978 Blu Ray Review

Image
Suicide is an impossible topic for a movie to explore, especially one that's hoping to trigger a few smiles along the journey. Many films have tried to include such self-inflicted violence, but the act provides a tonal tightrope walk few are able to master. Perhaps the lone example of success is Wes Anderson's "The Royal Tenenbaums," which explores the sinking feeling of desperation felt by one of the main characters as he slits his wrists, and somehow the production manages to rebound from such horror to reach even greater comedic heights. A long form test of mood is undertaken by 1978's "The End," where Burt Reynolds (who also directs) portrays a terminally ill man who wants to end it all before medical suffering begins. And it's played for laughs. Thankfully, Reynolds brings his rascally wit and love of exaggeration to "The End," trying to create silly but life-affirming story about a man's darkest hour, bringing in a lively suppor...

The Penguin Season 1 4K Review!

Image
The Penguin  is presented in 4K UHD courtesy of HBO and Warner Brothers Home Entertainment with an HEVC / H.265 encoded 2160p transfer in 2.00:1. Captured with various Arri cameras and finished at 4K, this is a very striking looking presentation, though it's unrelenting darkness (as in actual dimly lit material) is one of its most defining stylistic characteristics. In that regard, this format's HDR / Dolby Vision definitely allows more shadow detail to peek through the duskier material. The HDR grades also bring some really interesting highlights to the glut of yellow tinged material, making some moments a bit more "golden hour" looking, but probably just as often tipping things over into a slightly sickly, unreal quality which is perfectly suited toward the material. Detail levels are excellent throughout, with the caveat alluded to above about shadow definition. Fine detail on Farrell's incredibly impressive makeup is really pretty fantastic looking, and thin...
