Dylan's New Nightmare!
Written and Directed by Cecil Laird
Cast: Mike Hughes, Dave McRae, Cynthia Kania, Ron Sloan, Reavis Dorsey and Courtney Fishell.
25 years after New Nightmare Dylan Porter son of Heather Langenkamp is starting to have nightmares again. At first they weren't has dark but now Freddy Krueger as reappeared in them. Dylan has been seeing a therapist for years now and though he seems to be doing better it also seems that the dreams have only come about more recently. His father was murdered by Kruger and his mother Heather is in a psych ward. He has called a lot throughout the years only to be told she doesn't have to strength to talk. Now the dreams are getting more intense and Freddy is getting stronger. His most recent dream he was at an audition for Hatchet V. While waiting to be called in he falls asleep but doesn't know it. In the audition the stage hands commit suicide and the director turns out to be Freddy Krueger.
Kruger is getting closer to Dylan but while doing it decides he is going to send a message by taking out the therapist and giving her pen to Dylan. Dylan wakes up to find the pen but to also find Rex the dinosaur that helped protect him 25 years ago. Rex all stitched up from his first battle with Freddy. The phone rings and it is Heather.
This is a fan film and is done very well. I am not sure because I can't find anything to prove it but the scene where Dylan is waiting to audition I believe Jason Clay Dunn from Ink Masters is in it. I love the idea and story Cecil is telling here. I think it is a fantastic idea that this time has went by before he comes back. To me its like Freddy had to prove something to the higher powers where he was that he was ready again before they would allow him to return. Also he seems darker and more malevolent. He still has humor which was a stable to the characters past. I think Mike and Daves acting was really well done. I think Dave played a good Krueger. I am glad they went with practical makeup over CGI. The application could have been a little better as you can see the actors face and the make up instead of it being one. I love the touch of Hatchet V. Not only a good franchise to throw too but also a nod to Kane Hodder (Jason Voorhees). My only issue is it is too short and ends abruptly. Maybe Cecil will do more if it is received well. That is something I would love to see myself.
Overall I give this fan film a 3.5 out of 5. Good acting, story and a great idea. Solid execution of what they were going for. Needs better makeup applications to blend it into the actors face so it looks like one piece and not something on the actors face and really need either full length or a few more episodes to fill in and end the story. Cecil did a great job and will look forward to more of his work. You can stream Dylan's New Nightmare on Youtube.
