When Carl Withers and James Landers were 10 years old they committed the horrible act of murder. They decided one day to go out and get a younger child to kill. They went to a mall and picked up David McClendon. They were charge and convicted with the horrible crime. When they turned 18 they were released. They were told they could have no interaction with anyone from their past. While James was handling it okay, Carl was not. Now the news and other media outlets are wanting the boys found and taken care of for the crime.
This was an interesting movie. It doesn't have the best acting, dialog nor is it filmed very well but it for some reason kept my attention. You could figure out what was happening before it did for 90% of the time. There was a few scenes that I didn't really expect at first one for example is with Carl and his mother. Mind you Carl was not supposed to have contact with anyone from before the trial and he ended up going to his mothers house. I wish there was more of a trial when they were 10 instead of just a short telling about it. I love origin stories so more of a backstory shown again instead of just a few clips would have been nice. The guy who places Carls parole officer seemed uncomfortable acting, not sure why but seemed stiff.
The story is fictional yet it is loosely based on a real murder in Liverpool, England. James Patrick Bulger was kidnapped by Robert Thompson and Jon Venables and then brutally murdered. James Bulger was tortured and beaten way worse than David was in the movie. Both Thompson and Venables was sentenced in 1993. They were released in 2001. Venables was arrested again in 2010 for breaching the terms of his license and then paroled again in 2013. He was arrested again in 2017 for having child sexual abuse images on his computer. He was denied parole in 2020. Thompson hasn't done any crime since his release in 2001.
I give this movie a 2 out of 5. Most of it is for the story they tell. They again base it loosely off of the Bulger case but not everything. I recommend this movie for at least one watch. I streamed it on Prime Video but you can also purchase the VCI DVD of it for $13.97.
