Nefarious! Spoilers

 Nefarious! Believe Entertainment. Written and Directed by Chuck Konzelman and Cary Solomon. Cast: Sean Patrick Flanery, Jordan Belfi, Tom Ohmer and Glenn Beck.

Dr. James Martin is called to examine a death row inmate Edward Wayne Brady to determine whether or not he is competent enough to be executed for the murders he was convicted of. Upon arrival the warden tells James that the execution is set for 11pm and that he has until 4pm to come to his conclusion. James explains to the warden that that it is his practice and sometimes it takes time to figure out if the individual is truly insane or acting out. The warden proceeds to let James know that Edward is the best manipulator he has ever met and that by the time James was done he would have James thinking he had committed the murders himself.

James is escorted to a holding room to meet Edward. Edward telling James that he is a demon and he wants James to let Edward be executed because he is done using his vessel. Trying to determine if this is a ruse James ask him to do something to prove he is a demon. So he tells him to let him take over James. James says no at first but after a few minutes James agrees. Then taunting Edward that he feels nothing and that he must not be a demon because he didn't take over him. Edward tells James by the end of the visit he will end up killing 3 people. When James said that will never happen Edward brings up James mother. Talking about how he only pulled the plug for the money. James pissed off slings his folders off the table and tells him he didn't kill his mother that she had a terminal illness and was dying. It had nothing to due with the large inheritance. Edward said that's one.

After talking more about why he took Edwards vessel, James goes to leave and he ask him about Michele. And tells him how crappy of a man to make sure he has someone else before leaving her and on top of that leaving her with child. He tells James he can save a life by going to the guard shack and calling her telling her not to go through with the abortion, but before he did Edward let him know it was too late and that is two. James then ask to leave and goes to the guard shack. He makes the call only to find out she had the abortion. He goes back in and ask no demon stuff, no supernatural stuff how did Edward know all of this. And then the warden requested him. When he went with the warden it was to Edwards cell. There was a journal with all this information about James from the time he was born up till now. And a book "Nefarious" written by "Dr. James Martin". The warden asked if he was in on it and he said no. James tells them that Edward said he wanted James to write a book for him but said it was already written. 

James goes back to Edward and ask about the journal. Edward stated the very first picture he got of James. How he had no intention of killing James but then attacks James. After the attack James wrote in that Edward Wayne Brady was fully competent to go through with the execution. Even after multiple times the demon let the real Edward speak. Hearing from the real Edward is what almost made James put down that Edward was insane. Edward says and that makes three. When asked about his last meal Edward wanted a Bacon Cheeseburger, fries and chocolate shake extra thick. When the guard started to walk away the demon said never mind i'm not hungry. 

The officers took Edward to Death Row waiting cell where Edward asked the guard about his last meal and was told he said he didn't want anything. The warden shows up reading the death decree to him. They shackle him up and take him to the death chamber. Dr. James Martin along with multiple other witnesses sit in a little room looking through the one way glass. Before they can get Edward strapped in he jumps at the glass yelling "tell them the truth". After they get he strapped in the demon ask James one last time to join his master. They flip the switch and Edwards execution begins. After one go they checked and he was still alive so they flipped it again. Edward was pronounced dead at 11:02pm. Right after his death the demon enters James and told him he said join us. The demon makes James grab the gun of the detective sitting beside him and he puts it under his chin and pulls the trigger multiple times but it never goes off. 

One year goes by and James is on the Glenn Beck show talking about the book and how the demon wanted it to be a join/introduction manual be he re-wrote it to be a warning. Talked about how when they checked the gun the shell casing had three strike marks on it. Then when they shot the gun it worked perfectly fine. After the show ended James walks outside to see a lady going through a dumpster and offers her money. She says James, didn't you miss me. 

I liked this one. For me it had Silence of the Lambs vibes. No it was a Gorefest, no it wasn't even a horror film but it was a thriller. The story being told of a man who is an atheist has to either go with what he believes of there is nothing and this guy is insane or he has to believe. Multiple times in the movie there are major mind games. Do you believe Edward? The Demon? The Warden? There was so much going on yet 90% of the movie was in one room. I was invested and didn't get bored with it. Sean Patrick Flanery didn't a great job separating the two characters. He had didn't facial expression for each one, tone of voice. This is one I will buy when it releases on either Blu-Ray or 4K. At the time of this write up it is said to release on August 15th on Blu-Ray. I give Nefarious 3.5 out of 5.
