In 1987 Father Amorth visits an Italian family whos son has become "ill". Once arriving he knows the son is not "ill" but is possessed by a demon. He makes sure the family exits the home and brings in another priest as well as a pig. He taunts the demon who says he can possess anyone or anything. He tells the demon not only does he not believe that he could possess any person but he doesn't even believe he could possess the pig. The demon laughs and then possesses the pig of which the shoot immediately. He saved the young man and got rid of the demon. He later is called upon by the Church Tribunal who says he acted without their knowledge and they do not condone this. Cardinal Sullivan is skeptical of demonic possession. He explains what he did as well as what he believes their actual intentions for bringing him was the death of a young woman. After some arguing he lets them know that he is the Pope's Exorcist and if there are any problems to talk to his boss and walks out disgusted by this meeting.

After the meeting he goes to the Vatican to see the Pope who tells him he wants him to go to Spain to see a boy named Henry. Henry his sister Amy and their mother Julia traveled from America to Spain to receive an old abbey left to them from Julias recently deceased husband. Henry started showing signs of demonic possession after speaking in another voice and scratching his faces up. Yelled at Julia to bring him the priest. She gets Father Esquibel but he is thrown out of the room and the demon says the other priest. Soon Father Amorth arrives and finds out he is fighting a demon much stronger than the others. One who knows the sins that trouble Father Amorth. And even knows Father Amorths first name is Gabriel. They try to exorcise Henry but are unsuccessful. Father Amorth tells Esquibel that this is not about Henry but something else. He tells Esquibel to watch over Henry, meanwhile he goes outside to a well and uncovers there is a lot more than they know going on. The well was sealed off by the Church. Esquibel goes inside Henrys room to check on him but gets parts of his ear bitten off. They get Julia and Amy to the chapel for safe keeping and Esquibel cleans up his ear. Father Amorth lets him know in this business you won't be pretty long. Esquibel is not interested in his jokes.

Father Amorth finds a secret room that holds the skeletal remains of a priest in a cage. He explains that the priest was not in the cage for their safety but to protect from what was behind the door. Which lead down to another skeletal remains of the leader of the Spanish Inquisition who was also an exorcist. They find a book that give them the demon name Asmodeus. Realizing what they were dealing with Father Amorth now has the demons name to help fight him. Going back to Henrys room for one last battle they bring the rest of the family to help pray. The demon takes possession of Amy who begins to attack Julia, he starts to hang Esquibel with the priest stole and tells Father Amorth to give him what he wants....his soul! Father Amorth agrees and Asmodeus releases everyone and starts to take possession of Father Amorth. Father Amorth tells Esquibel to get the family out of there. Once they have left he tries to hang himself but the demon won't let him. He wants in the Vatican and this is his only way. Father Amorth goes back down where he found the book and Esquibel goes as well to find him. He starts a prayer and between the two of them they exorcise Father Amorth. The Pope sent Cardinal Sullivan off and brought in Cardinal Lumumba. Father Amorth and Esquibel are told by the Lumumba there is a lot going on and that this is one of 199 they know of. Offers Father Amorth a spot to do this and he ask Esquibel does he want to. Esquibel says lets get to work and Father Amorth says Lets Go to Hell. Father Amorth fought demons until he passed away in 2016.

I think this movie gets to much hate from people saying it is slow, boring, same thing we have seen before. I personally really liked it. I think that it holds up with the exorcist movies of the last 20 years no problem. The story was fantastic as well. I give it 3.5 out of 5. It will be one I add to my collection when it comes out. At the time of writing this you can get it on Amazon Prime Video for $19.99-$24.99 or when it releases on Amazon for $34.99 though I think it might be cheaper than that on there when it actually comes out.
