Dark Night of the Scarecrow 2! VCI Entertainment! Directed and written by J.D. Feigelson. Cast, Amber Wedding, Adam Snyder, Carol Dines, Adien Shurr, Tim Gooch and Mike VanZant.
Chris Rhymer and her son Jeremy move to small town to start over. When they get there Jeremy befriends an older lady that he calls Aunt Hildie aka Hilda Corvis. They have come from a troubled situation and it has taken a toll on Jeremy. Shrevie a local farm hand was caught taking a long break from his boss. The boss told him to get back to work. Later that evening his boss was locking everything up and the radio starts going off on its own. After throwing it on the ground he hears something or someone in the barn. Thinking it is Shrevie tells him he has the money he owes him. But then a Scarecrow is behind him. Trying to escape but the door was locked shut when he turns around the Scarecrow is gone. Thinking he is safe he takes a breath and is killed.
At this time Jeremy has started talking to someone called Bubba but every time he is checked on he is the only one there. Telling his mom he hates being there. Chris taking the laundry down gets scared by the sheriff. Asking him why he is there he explains he is looking for Shrevie. That he is needed for questioning. Hilda tells Jeremy that she is going to lose her home because she is behind too much. She tells him how when at her families gravesite a lawyer showed up and gave her this info. The grave said Charles Ritter aka Bubba. The lawyer trying to take her home gets home himself. Upon getting home finds Shrevie in his kitchen eating his food. Chases him out of the house and into a field. Not able to find him he sees a Scarecrow and starts to check it out. Next thing you know he is thrown into a piece of forked farm equipment. The Sheriffs department send out the dogs and end up at Hilda Corvis home looking for Shrevie. She tells them she wouldn't hold a fugitive and could take care of herself. After Chris shows up to get Jeremy she hears something/someone in her attic. When she looks it is Shrevie. He tells her he didn't do it and that she knows who did.
Sheriff Snyder trying to help figure this out meets with Chris at the restaurant she works at and explains to her that the older folk say many years ago there were a lot of unexplained deaths. This whole time Harold Vance has been in prison because Chris was a prime witness in his case. His lawyer let him know they found her. Tells the lawyer to find a local to take care of it for them. Chris stops at a local produce stand and ask the questions about what happened years ago and was told to talk to Hilda Corvis. When she confronts Hilda about it she kind of brushes it off as they don't speak about it.
Jeremy plays the hide and seek game with Bubba saying if you are there come to me and Shrevie shows up. He scares Jeremy off, he thinks into a building. Going in there after him he doesn't find him but finds the Scarecrow and deciding to burn it gets it turned around and ends up burning to death. When they find him they worry a little more about who it could be since it wasn't him. Sheriff Turney tells Chris that his boss needed to see her right then. He takes her to a barn and when she goes in he knocks her out and ties her up. He explains that not his boss but more her boss. He was hired to do the hit. But before he can finish the job he is hung by the neck in the barn. She is told by Sheriff Tutt to move on again. Chris goes to Hildas to get Jeremy but is told the bus is running late and that she needs to go pack and can pick him up afterwards.
When she gets home Harold is waiting on her. He walks her out into the cornfield and shows her a half dug grave and tells her to finish digging. Harold thinks he hears something and when he turns back to her she throws dirt in his face and runs. Giving chase but not able to find her he finds the Scarecrow. Being chased by the Scarecrow he stumbles into the grave falling on the pick. Chris goes to get Jeremy who again was asking for someone to come to him. Hilda comes from around the house telling Jeremy that his mother is trying to take him away from her. After explaining about Bubba to Jeremy he runs into his moms arms and they leave. Hilda confronted by the Scarecrow tells him she will find him another friend. She hugged the Scarecrow and he pulled her in tight presumably suffocating her. As Chris and Jeremy drive off you are left seeing the Scarecrow one last time with a tear running down its mask.
I give this movie a 2 out of 5. This movie was nothing like the first one. Other than having Bubba and a mention of Marylee. The Scarecrow is done different and you see it way too much. The suspense of whether it is really doing anything like the first movie is gone. Once you see him a few times it ruins the surprise factor. They added some bad CGI eyes. Should have just left them empty. I think they should have had Jeremy more brainwashed and Chris needed to do something to get him back instead of just saying how Bubba is a child just like him. I thought it was great that Shrevie wore a VCI Entertainment hat. I strongly feel the first movie had a better script, acting. It was filmed better as well which shocks me because the first one was in 1981 and this one was in 2022.
