The Whale! Movie and Blu-Ray Review!

The Whale directed by Darren Aronofsky, written by Samuel Hunter based on a play by the same name. Your cast Brendan Fraser (Charlie), Sadie Sink (Ellie), Ty Simpkins (Thomas), Hong Chau (Liz), Samantha Morton (Mary). Distributed by A24.

Charlie is a recluse. He keeps to himself for multiple reasons but mainly because of his weight. He is obese and his weight makes it way to hard on him to get around let alone going out. He is an English teacher who works from home using Zoom but with his camera off. Liz is Charlies only true friend and helps take care of him. Scared for his life because of his health she does what she cans to help but is also an enabler. As much as she loves him and wants to help him she can't seem to say no and continues to bring him foods he shouldn't be eating. Thomas shows up one day to try and show him the way to God. Liz tells him to leave and he does but returns later. Tries again and Charlie tells him he isn't interested after explaining many things to him. Out of nowhere Charlies daughter Ellie shows up. Pissed off about him abandoning her when she was 8. He offers her every dollar he has just to spend time with him.

Liz shows up and tells Charlie he doesn't need to see her anymore but he continues to. Liz tells Mary and she comes to let Charlie know Ellies intentions are not good. She is an evil child. Not wanting to believe he continues to want to see and help Ellie.

You watch a man self-destruct. It is sad. Some people said this was a boring movie. Too long. If you sit back and watch the meanings this is a very well done movie and hits multiple true life feelings based on things people have really went through. When tragedy strikes we tend to go to something and Charlie went to food for his comfort. Many people will relate to this. It was very heart wrenching at times.

The Blu-Ray is very well done. It is a single disc Blu-Ray with a digital copy as well. Has a slip cover which is always nice. Extras include, People are Amazing: The Making of the Whale and The Sounds of the Sea: Scoring the Whale.

I loved this movie. I give it a 4.5 out of 5. One of my highest ranking movies ever. I was into the movie the entire time and understanding the feelings of every character.

At the time of writing this you can buy The Whale Blu-Ray/Digital on Amazon.com for $17.59.
